Joseph Armantrout, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of the county, died at his home near North Union on the 14th at the age of 77. He was born in Warren County, Ohio April 10, 1810. His father, Frederick Armintrout (sic) removed to this county with his family of wife and three children, Joseph, Henry and Anna, at an early day. Henry died about 40 years ago, leaving a widow and three small children, of which the oldest is Eli F. Armintrout, Anna, the wife of George Faust, deceased and Joseph, who has resided on the same farm purchased by his father, for 60 years, and during that time has cut down the wilderness, and instead of the log cabin a commodious residence and out buildings occupy their site. He was married to Susan Byrd June 9, 1833. She died Aug 10, 1840, leaving two children, John who resides at North Union and Lydia, now deceased, who was the wife of Samuel Johnson, of Crawfordsville. He was again married to Eliza R. Crane, Oct 23, 1844. She died Dec 16, 1859, leaving two boys, James who resides at New Market, and is one of the firm of Walker, Armintrout & Co, and Harvey, a resident of Indianapolis. He was married a third time April 19, 1860 (Martha Dice). His wife died Feb 28, 1886, leaving three children, two girls and one boy. He was a member of the Lutheran church but the church at North Union was discontinued about 30 years ago, and he never attached himself to any other. He was a good neighbor, a kind husband, and an affectionate father, and one whose word was never called in question: one of nature's nobleman, an honest man. W.A.R
